A PSA (Public Service Announcement) is a message sent out via traditional or social media in order to raise awareness. PSAs are charge-free and are aiming to let the public become better informed. In the US, PSAs first began being broadcasted during WWII. The objective of the earliest PSAs were for the public to support the war effort in Europe and against the Japanese Empire. After the war, PSAs were used to inform the public about a broad range of issues such as, obesity, gambling, or even forest fires. I personally can't remember seeing any PSAs recently, however, I think that PSAs are necessary and impactful in that they are great for educating the public in areas where they may be much ignorance.
